MarchYour roof is one of the most important parts of your home — and ridge capping plays a crucial role in keeping it secure and weatherproof. When ridge caps become cracked, loose, or deteriorated, they can quickly lead to leaks and structural damage.
One of the most common questions homeowners ask is:
👉 How much does a ridge cap repair cost?
In this complete 2026 guide, we break down the typical costs, what affects pricing, and how to know whether you need a simple repair or full replacement.
Ridge capping refers to the specially shaped tiles or metal pieces that sit along the peak (ridge line) of your roof. These caps seal the gap where two roof slopes meet and prevent:
Water penetration
Wind uplift
Pest entry
Debris buildup
Ridge caps are typically bedded in mortar and then pointed (sealed) to secure them in place. Over time, the mortar can crack due to:
Extreme heat and UV exposure
Heavy rain and storms
Roof movement
Age-related wear and tear
When this happens, repairs become necessary to prevent larger roofing issues.
Ridge cap repair costs vary depending on the size of your roof, the extent of damage, and accessibility. Below is a general pricing guide for Australian homeowners:
| Type of Repair | Average Cost (AUD) |
|---|---|
| Minor repointing | $600 – $900 |
| Re-bedding & repointing | $1,000 – $1,800 |
| Partial ridge replacement | $1,200 – $2,500 |
| Full ridge cap replacement | $2,000 – $4,000+ |
These prices usually include labour, materials, safety equipment, and clean-up. However, every roof is different, so a professional inspection is the best way to get an accurate quote.
Several factors influence the final price:
The longer the ridge line, the more materials and labour required. Larger homes naturally cost more.
Steeper roofs require additional safety measures and take more time to work on, increasing labour costs.
Simple repointing is cheaper than full re-bedding. If ridge tiles are cracked or dislodged, replacement costs will apply.
Concrete tile ridge caps are generally more affordable to repair than terracotta or specialty tiles.
Double-storey homes or homes with limited access may require scaffolding or extra safety setup.
Older roofs often require more extensive work, especially if the mortar has deteriorated across the entire ridge.
Understanding the difference between these two services helps explain pricing.
Repointing involves replacing the top layer of mortar or flexible compound that seals the ridge caps. This is suitable when:
Mortar is cracked but still holding
Ridge caps are stable
No major movement has occurred
It’s the more affordable option.
Re-bedding requires removing ridge caps, replacing the mortar base, and resetting the tiles. This is necessary when:
Bedding mortar is crumbling
Ridge tiles are loose
Movement has occurred due to wind or storms
Because it’s more labour-intensive, it costs more than simple repointing.
Don’t wait for a leak before inspecting your ridge caps. Look out for:
Cracked or missing mortar
Loose ridge tiles
Visible gaps along the roof peak
Water stains on ceilings
Debris in your roof cavity
Tiles shifting after storms
Catching issues early can significantly reduce repair costs.
While some homeowners attempt DIY roof repairs, ridge cap work involves working at heights and requires proper techniques.
Fall hazards
Incorrect mortar mix
Poor sealing leading to leaks
Voiding roof warranty
Future costly repairs
Professional roofers use flexible pointing compounds designed to expand and contract with weather changes — something DIY repairs often overlook.
In most cases, hiring experienced professionals ensures the job is done safely and correctly the first time.
A professionally completed ridge cap repair can last:
10–15 years (repointing)
15–20+ years (rebedding and full restoration)
Longevity depends on material quality and weather exposure.
Regular roof inspections every few years can help extend the life of your repairs.
While roof work shouldn’t be rushed or underdone, there are smart ways to reduce costs:
If you need gutter cleaning or minor tile repairs, bundling services can lower overall labour costs.
Small cracks are cheaper to fix than full rebedding jobs.
Roofers may offer competitive pricing during slower seasons.
Comparing 2–3 licensed roofing professionals helps ensure fair pricing.
Sometimes repairs aren’t enough. Consider full replacement if:
Ridge caps repeatedly come loose
Bedding mortar has completely failed
Multiple tiles are broken
Roof is 20+ years old and deteriorating
In such cases, replacing the ridge system may offer better long-term value than ongoing patch repairs.

We regret to inform you that we cannot provide a warranty specifically for roof leaks. Roof leaks can
be exceptionally challenging to detect and diagnose due to a variety of factors, including:
1. Complexity of Detection: Roof leaks often originate from hidden or unexpected areas, making it
difficult to pinpoint the exact source without comprehensive and sometimes invasive investigation.
2. Environmental Factors: Roofs are exposed to various weather conditions, such as heavy rain
and wind, which can unpredictably impact the roof's integrity over time.
3. Material Aging and Wear: Over time, roofing materials naturally age and may develop
weaknesses that are not immediately apparent during inspections. Can be very difficult and time
consuming to detect.
4. Previous Repairs and Installations: The condition and quality of previous repairs or installations
can significantly influence the occurrence and detection of leaks, adding complexity to warranty
coverage.
Despite these challenges, please be assured that our team is committed to addressing any roof leaks
that may arise. We will always work to our best ability to identify and solve roof leaks promptly and
effectively, ensuring the longevity and performance of your roof.
The best process to do this is to have your roof high pressure washed first. After this is done contact
your solar company and ask them to install rails and wiring. When this is finished, we will fully restore
the roof and leave you with spare coated tiles and touch up paint. The solar company final task to
connect the panels to the railing.
Yes, he majority of roof we restore now days do have solar panels. We high pressure the roof and
rinse all panels. When it’s time for painting we cover all panels with a plastic film and paint underneath
the panels, so all visible tiles are coated with primer and colour.
If your tiles are porous this means that they are retaining water which adds significant weight to your
roof and roofing timbers, leading to potential leaks and structural issues. To prevent this we apply a
maxi build primer to the rooftiles when painting. This Ensures that the tiles are coated very thick. All
cracks and rough surfaces on the tiles are filled in turn giving the finish much more appealing and
bolder.
All solar panels rely on a clean surface to be able to work to their optimum capacity. When the surface
gets dirty it restricts the panels’ ability to capture sunlight efficiently and will therefore not produce as
much electricity. Regular cleaning is not only advised for productivity of the panel but also in most
cases to adhere to warranty requirements Aswell.
Whirly vents help your roof space breathe, in turn saving you money on your energy costs.
Roof repairs typically start from $250 for minor tile fixes, while more extensive jobs or full restorations can range from $2,500 to $10,000 depending on roof size and condition.
If your roof has multiple issues like leaks, tile damage, faded paint, or rusted valleys, a roof restoration is often more cost-effective long-term.
Absolutely. We’re licensed, insured, and trusted by hundreds of Adelaide homeowners for quality roof repair and restoration services.
